Ursus Books Nets a One-Month ROI with Contex HD iFLEX
Ursus Books, a New York retailer of art books, rare books, and original prints, realized a one-month return on investment with the Contex HD iFLEX. Ursus’ print department uses the flatbed scanner to capture high resolution images of original engravings, lithographs, and watercolors dating back to the 17th century. Online sales have become a crucial part of this department’s business, and the HD iFLEX’s speed and image quality enables Ursus to capture 400% more prints weekly than previous methods, resulting in dramatically higher revenue.
“The speed and accuracy of the images are impressive, and the large scanning area enables us to scan multiple pieces in just one click of the button. Within minutes we can post new inventory for sale,” comments Olivia Kraus, Director of Ursus Books. “We value the HD iFLEX so much so that we are nominating it as employee of the month.”
“When precision is critical, companies like Ursus turn to Contex scanners to capture the finest details,” comments Steve Blanken, General Manager of Contex Americas. “The speed and accuracy of the HD iFLEX make it possible for Ursus to enjoy a notable return on investment.”
Ursus sells its inventory through its website and online marketplace One Kings Lane. Prior to that partnership, the print department grappled with low sales and a time-consuming photographing process to capture its inventory. Once Ursus agreed to sell its prints through One Kings Lane, sales surged from three to five per day to twelve to fifteen primarily due to the HD iFLEX’s efficiency, which greatly trimmed the time of the capturing process.
Shorter Time, Faster Scans
The HD iFLEX’s speed, which can scan an image in four seconds, now allows staffers to scan and upload several prints daily. Additionally, the scanner’s single CCD camera, high color fidelity, and ability to scan up to A1/D-size documents on its A2/C-size frame makes it easy to accurately capture oversized originals, a task that previously challenged the photographer.
“Because of the amount of time the photographing process took, we couldn’t upload nearly as much as we can now with the HD iFLEX,” states Christina Gruppuso, Assistant Manager of Ursus Books. “The most important things are color accuracy and speed. Just the number of prints we can get up on our website or on One Kings Lane in one day is a huge change.”
Each print typically sells for between $200 and $400 on One Kings Lane, and sales through the website have generated tens of thousands in revenue for Ursus over the last two months. In addition to selling a greater number of prints on One Kings Lane, the high quality scans produced by the HD iFLEX have generated revenue for Ursus through the company website.
